Questions about generators and outages
Do I need a permit, and who pulls it?
Usually, yes. We pull the permit and book the inspection where one is required.
What is backfeeding, and why does it matter?
It means power going from your generator out onto the utility's line. It can hurt a lineworker or you. An inlet and an interlock or transfer switch stop it.
What size generator do I need?
We add up what you want to run. A well pump takes more to start than to run, so tell us about it first.
Is a portable inlet enough, or do I need standby?
An inlet with a transfer switch covers a few circuits. An interlock covers more, one breaker at a time. Standby covers the most and starts itself.
Will my insurer care?
Some ask about a generator hookup. Ask yours. We can give you a copy of the permit and inspection.
Do you do emergency work?
We don't answer overnight. Calls during an outage are returned in the order they came in. For fire, smoke or wires down, call 911 and your utility first.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. The license line is in the footer, and you can look the number up on the state's lookup.
How do I send photos?
Text them to (906) 555-0100.
